The Intro
This is the Marathon GSAR Automatic Military Issue Diver - WW194006Such a lovely military issue watch. I wore it for a few months and absolutely loved it. Glass tubes on hands, Super hard crystal, very interesting watch all around. Classy but can absolutely be worn daily, or as a beater watch. This diver can take some impact and not get scratched. Very resilient, robust. Wears very comfortably for a larger sized military watch.
0:00
hello everyone and welcome to vintage
0:03
watch Street GSR stands for a government
0:07
search-and-rescue they call it
0:09
government search-and-rescue because it
0:11
was worn by troops in Iraq and
0:14
Afghanistan and like a lot of military
0:16
watches it does have the 24-hour dial on
0:20
a matte black background with Arabic
0:22
numerals I really like how they put the
0:25
date function between the four and the
0:27
five that way they've not had to replace
0:30
any of the numbers a lot of watches
0:33
they'll be missing the number three or
0:34
the number six because they're putting
0:37
the date function in those locations
0:39
this watch is rated for 38 a.m. which is
0:43
300 meters notice the chapter ring there
0:46
are not that many lines and points and
0:49
details around the chapter ring it's
0:51
easy to look at I can take a glance and
0:53
see exactly what's going on I really
0:56
like the way this watch is aged and how
0:58
the patina has made a nice even presence
1:02
across the watch another very unique
1:05
point is related to the tritium that's
1:08
why we see the h3 symbol on this dial
1:11
there is a radioactive presence here
1:14
however it is very safe these hands
1:17
these are actually glass tubes and these
1:21
glass tubes are filled with phosphorous
1:24
and tritium when these tritium tubes
1:27
react with that phosphorous this is what
1:30
causes them to glow these tritium tubes
1:33
they're glowing very brightly they can
1:36
glow for 25 years without any light
1:39
source notice the triangular pip on the
1:43
top of this dial this pip is made from
1:46
Mara glow it was developed by marathon
1:49
it's only used by marathon and it is
1:52
extremely bright it needs to be exposed
1:56
to sunlight or brightness before it will
1:58
glow we talked about these glowing tubes
2:02
these tritium tubes notice they're
2:04
mounted on syringe hands these are the
2:07
same style of hand to the syringe hands
2:09
we see on the mill w-4 six three seven
2:13
for and on the GG w113 watches noticed
2:18
that read second tip a the second hand
2:22
sweeps beautifully and be the read
2:24
really sets off against that black
2:26
background this red tip is also lived
2:30
with Margalo
2:31
these hands are spaced they don't sit
2:34
directly on top of each other because
2:37
there is a gap between the hands you
2:40
need a deep case you need the dial to go
2:43
deep inside it looks like this dial sits
2:46
inside of a stadium almost this beauty
2:50
is powered by an ETA movement this
2:53
machine is powered by the ETA 2824 - -
2:57
which is a pretty good ETA movement it's
3:01
a 25 jewel movement and it vibrates at a
3:04
frequency of 20 8800 vibrations per hour
3:09
eight beats per second this movement
3:12
does have a hacking function got a power
3:15
reserve of around 42 hours it's winding
3:18
very smoothly the date flips very
3:22
exactly it doesn't delay or start
3:25
flipping earlier or late this case is
3:28
made from 316 L still a very high grade
3:33
still it is a brushed stainless steel
3:36
that way there's not so much glare and
3:39
gloss you don't want a polished case
3:42
that would give away your position it's
3:44
a thirty nine millimeter case it's 41
3:47
millimeters with the vessel from love to
3:50
lug you're looking at 48 millimeters the
3:53
thickness 13.7 millimeters it is big and
3:58
really it looks bigger than it is
4:00
because the sides are flat and not
4:03
rounded out let's take a look at the
4:06
case back this does screw on very
4:08
tightly very secure threading this bezel
4:12
it turns very precisely I feel a smooth
4:16
clicking motion this is a 120 click
4:19
basal meaning that it will click two
4:21
times for every one second it's easy to
4:25
grip it overhangs the watch
4:27
there are those grip functions there you
4:29
can grab this and turn it very
4:31
comfortably it is a screw down crown the
4:35
crown it's very easy to turn it that
4:38
texture makes it easy to grip in cold
4:40
weather this is an anti-reflective
4:43
crystal it doesn't show much reflection
4:46
or glare to the enemy you can see the
4:48
time quite easily this crystal is 2.8
4:52
millimeters thick it is a synthetic
4:55
sapphire and it's scratch resistant I
4:58
did hit it on edges on tables but there
5:02
are no scratches on that crystal if you
5:05
do put a NATO strap on this watch you'll
5:08
have to wear it a little bit tight
5:10
because the watch is a little heavy it's
5:13
made to fit a 20 millimeter strap I can
5:17
recommend you get the rubber strap or
5:19
the metal bracelet the rubber strap is
5:21
more comfortable it fits the hand a
5:24
little more secure than the metal
5:26
bracelet the rubber strap or the NATO
5:28
strap either one of those two I would
5:31
personally recommend brand new this
5:34
watch will run you around 1,200 dollars
5:37
used you're looking at around 900 US
5:40
dollars if you go to ebay you can pick
5:43
them up anywhere between 650 750 up to
5:48
$800 if you want to put $1,000 down on
5:52
one of these you can get one with the
5:54
original rubber strap and maybe the
5:56
metal strap in good condition it's a
5:59
straightforward watch it's solid it's
6:02
direct it is thick as well but it wears
6:06
very comfortably the movement overall
6:09
reliable it's keeping very good time
6:12
it's got a good reputation I would wear
6:15
it for daily wear it is very tough you
6:19
can wear this almost like you would wear
6:22
a beater watch you can also wear it to a
6:24
rather formal event looking at what kind
6:28
of watch you get I would say it's worth
6:30
it thank you very much for watching this
6:33
review about the marathon GSR I hope
6:36
you've learned something or it's
6:38
provided some useful value to
6:40
